Silvia Pardo answered on 10 Nov 2016:

The things I do in my job are always aimed at fixing something that is bad for people or the environment, so I get most of my inspiration from there. For example, here is a problem that recently inspired me: fish farms in Scotland and Cornwall had to shut down because harmful algae were making the fish sick. Some of them didn’t notice in time and kept selling the fish, so people got seriously sick as well. That inspired us to create a system that uses satellite images of the ocean to detect if harmful algae are blooming in an area and alert the fishermen.

Other than that I get inspiration from the weirdest places: books, movies, art, you name it!
