Satellite applications catapult
I started my career as a Electronics apprentice in the Royal Air Force and now i’m Chief Development Officer for the Satellite Application Catapult
I have been working in the telecommunications industry for over 30 years , my career has spanned a variety of technologies advancements from the first mobile phone to talking to Tim Peake on the international space station. it’s hard to imagined it would have been so much fun. today i manage a team of 62 very talented and enthusiastic engineers who envisage how we can exploit technology in space. When i’m not doing this i’m cycling the wilds of Buckinghamshire or building UAV’s for a hobby.
I do wonder what the world will be like in the next 30 years, maybe we will be talking to astronauts on mars by then ? what do you think ?
imagining the unthinkable and engineer the impossible and that’s just a Monday :-)
the space industry is one that pushes the laws of physics and certainly the boundaries of our knowledge , my work involves listening to some of the worlds problems and trying to envisage solutions & answers to these problems. typically these can be
how can we increase crop yield by monitoring pest and disease from satellites in space
can we predict catastrophic weather events from space
can we communicate with people in the outer reaches of the arctic or polar regions
will we live on mars soo
and the wild and wacky ,” can you count chickens from space” yes we can !
My Typical Day
every day is different , i meet different people and listen to so many problems and challenges
today i’m designing a system to link rural communities in scotland , this includes how the next generation of small satellites will operate and how we can address some of the challenges of operating them in very low orbit .
What I'd do with the money
buy everyone a raspberry pi ! there so much fun ;-)
